Security companies that are lawfully registered in Punjab or engaged in substantial operations within the province
In a significant move, the Punjab government has initiated the process of accepting online applications for arms licenses. Eligible individuals, institutions, and security companies can now apply for licenses for non-prohibited bore weapons.
The revised fee structure, as notified by the Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department in the Punjab Arms Rules 2023, has raised the license fee from Rs20,000 to Rs50,000.
Streamlined eligibility criteria
To obtain an arms license, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria:
Be a Pakistani citizen with a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)
License for security companies
Security companies that are lawfully registered in Punjab or engaged in substantial operations within the province are eligible to apply for arms licenses.
Business arms license
Additionally, business arms licenses will be issued to individuals or legal entities, provided they meet the necessary eligibility criteria. These licenses will specify all categories of manufacturing, repairing, and dealership for the sale, purchase, or storage of arms, ammunition, or military stores.
Concealed carry permit not required
One notable aspect of the new regulations is that license holders will no longer require a separate permit for carrying their weapon in a concealed manner, simplifying the process for responsible firearm owners.
