Depression is a silent killer

  • June 25 , 2024

I play with my thoughts when sitting with nature_ something I am deeply addicted to. Every evening when I look at the setting sun, my mood dims; it drags me towards the deadly disease, whereupon ceases me to pen down about myself. “Yes! Depression is what sucks all my energy,” she left everyone she encountered with a smile. And then from nowhere, I heard she was no more! Alas! She commited suicide. This is depression which kills beautiful souls with beautiful smiles on their faces but aches in the hearts. Depression, defined as, is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is coded as a silent killer because the person smiling with you at the moment may take his/her life right after leaving you. Depression is a psychological illness_ unfortunately, leads to death if not shared with one on time. Being hopeless for sometimes is natural but experiencing it for long
may indicate you are depressed. Depression brings a change in your daily routine; a dysfunction in your everyday activities. There appears an impairment in the way you think and perceive the things. Depression, in general, causes sadness, laziness and a loss of interest in activities you enjoyed once. A person with depression you meet would likely cite, “Life is boring these days; its colourless and everything seems to be down.” etc. However, you will,
for sure, feel lot better when you accept your depression. I believe depression is the most dangerous disease one suffers from. People, who are
depressed inside, will never let you realize how badly they are suffering inside. Although, not letting others know how depressed you are more likely harms you in the worst ways; most depressed people rarely know it. Depression is one of the leading causes of suicides. Most of the people cannot share
their feelings, and absorb all things inside them. Finally, they end up with finishing their lives. Depression is caused owing to several reasons, like, unemployment, poverty, rejection or frustrations. In the present world, more than 264 million people of all ages are suffering from depression from one or the other way, states World Health Organization. Depression includes the following symptoms;
1) Sleep disturbance:
A person suffering from depression may experience sleep disturbance or insomania.
You may over sleep or lack the required hours of sleep.
2) Change in appetite:
Depressed individuals cannot deal with the amount of their weight; either they get to
become over-weighted or lose weight.
3) Mood changes:
The individual suffering from depression is also found to be irritated in most of the
times. They get angry on pity things.
4) Worthlessness or feeling of guilty:
The person may be captured with negative thoughts of worthlessness. He or she may
feel guilty. It also includes self-blaming.
5) Suicidal thoughts:
Death or suicidal thoughts are quite common when in depression. In most cases,
depressed people ignore personal hygiene.
Depression can be persistant, seasonal or situational. It is never too late to treat your depressed mood, but with the conservativness of our society, a person visiting a psychiatrist would be lablled as a “psycho”. The stigma of society has enchained so many of individuals. A person with depression prepares disturbances but never visits a psychiatrist. I wonder if one can be diagnosed with fever and stomic issues, then why not depression? Just like rest part of body, brain is also a part; and dysfunctions may happen. As experienced personally, I found one of my friends very disturbed. I, in very polite manner, advised her that visiting a doctor would be healthy for her. Despite being educated, she asked me if she were a psycho; she was phobic of the stigma. It amazea me when I witness people going to religious clerics considering mental disturbances as presence of some sorts of evil spirits, and consider visiting a doctor a
tabo. We live in a society where even choosing “Psychology” as a field of study is something unpractical. I yet remember a very evening when I was sitting in hostel lawn and studying, two females appeared and asked about my department. I stated Psychology, they laughed at me saying, “Pagalon ka subject”.
In the world majority of people are suffering from some sorts of mental issues but visiting a doctor is considered an horror. If nothing else, the doctors can better
suggest you things to get safe from the deadly attacks of mental illness. Hence, your brain is also a part of your body. Some changes in neurotransmitters
may cause you disturbances and it is never something to laugh at. And kindly do visit counselors, psychologists or a psychiatrist near you. Spread the knowledge, vanish the conservative mindsets and give a helping hand to those who are suffering from some kinda mental issues, they may have none except you at that moment.
