The recent weather conditions in Pakistan have led to a sharp drop in temperatures, intensifying the cold across several regions. While rainfall in the plains and snowfall in the higher regions of Dera have added to the chill, locals are now turning to warmer clothing for relief as the cold deepens. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), in the upper regions, the snowfall has caused severe disruptions. Roads leading to the higher areas have been blocked, and the combination of heavy rain and snow has resulted in power outages, tripping feeders and leaving waterlogged streets. Businesses and homes in many areas are grappling with these weather-related challenges. The weather’s impact has been especially evident in Swat, where the plains have been experiencing ongoing rainfall and the upper areas continue to see intermittent snowfall. In the past 24 hours, Mingora, Saidu Sharif, Kabal, and nearby areas have been subjected to sporadic rainfall, while heavy snowfall has persisted in Kalam, Gabral, Mahodand, and surrounding areas. Despite the ongoing cold, roads to the upper regions remain open, though authorities have issued warnings due to the risk of landslides in these areas. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has advised against travelling beyond Sharda, as the threat of landslides remains high. While the Neelum Highway from Sharda to Toubat has been reopened for traffic, officials urge both locals and tourists to avoid any unnecessary travel in these weather conditions. Meanwhile, in Quetta, the temperature has dropped to 7°C, with a humidity level of 33%. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain with thunder in Quetta and the surrounding areas today, adding to the region's unsettled weather. On the other hand, Karachi is set to experience hot and dry weather over the next 24 hours, with temperatures expected to range from 20.5°C to 39°C. Light north-eastern winds are blowing through the city, with a humidity level of 70%, but no significant rainfall is expected in the coastal metropolis. Looking at the broader region of Punjab, the PMD has forecasted cloudy weather for several districts, including Lahore, with light rain expected in parts of Rawalpindi and Gujranwala divisions. In Lahore, the skies will alternate between cloud cover and brief moments of sunshine, but the chances of rain remain slim today. However, from March 11 to 13, the weather in Punjab is expected to be cloudy, with light showers in various areas. Additionally, rain is forecasted for 14th and 15th March. Despite the forecasts, Lahore experienced dry conditions yesterday, and there is no significant chance of rain today. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued a weather advisory, warning that rain will continue across the region from 9th to 16th March.
