Treasury resolution points out ‘rot’ in hockey affairs

LAHORE: A resolution has been submitted with the Punjab Assembly secretariat against the “severe mismanagement” faced by the Pakistan’s national hockey team during the recent FIH Pro League 2026 tour in Australia.

The resolution, submitted by treasury member Uzma Kardar, regrets the national hockey team players were left without proper accommodation, meals or logistical support in Australia.

It says that Pakistan hockey’s downfall is not just about one “scandal” in Australia, which caused international embarrassment to the country, it reflects “decades of neglect, poor governance and lack of vision” by those at the helm of hockey affairs.

It laments that the sport that once symbolised national pride and brought the country many gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals has been left to struggle for survival.

The resolution says that unless structural reforms, financial transparency and grass-root revival is prioritised, hockey risks fading further from Pakistan’s sporting identity.

“This House demands strict accountability and restructuring of the PHF [Pakistan Hockey Federation] through immediate action by the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” it says, adding that the sport’s revival requires revolutionary steps, not cosmetic fixes.

Unless reforms are bold and transparent, national hockey risks permanent decline, the resolution concludes.
