“The Office” reboot officially in the works

Peacock has officially greenlit a new mockumentary series from Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the US version of "The Office," and Michael Koman, co-creator of "Nathan for You." This isn't a direct reboot or spinoff of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch, but it will exist within the same comedic universe.  The plot centers around a familiar concept – a documentary crew.  This time, however, the crew that captured the antics of Michael Scott and his team sets their sights on a new subject: a struggling Midwestern newspaper attempting a comeback with the help of volunteer reporters. The series boasts a fresh cast led by Domhnall Gleeson, known for his roles in "The Patient" and "About Time," and Sabrina Impacciatore, who recently appeared in season 2 of "The White Lotus."  Specific character details remain under wraps for now. Production is expected to begin in July 2024, hinting at a potential release date sometime in 2025.  This news follows rumors of a new Daniels project that surfaced in late 2023. Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCU Entertainment, expressed excitement about the project.  "The Office' continues to gain popularity with new generations of fans thanks to streaming," she said. "This new series, set in the world of Dunder Mifflin, introduces a fresh cast and a ripe comedic environment. It's about  a daily newspaper struggling in the digital age.” With Greg Daniels returning to the world of mockumentaries and a brand new cast of characters facing relatable challenges, this Peacock series has the potential to capture the hearts of both "The Office" fans and newcomers alike.
