Tyla's phenomenal rise: From winning a Grammy to Met Gala glam

Tyla, the “Truth or Dare” singer, has cemented her status as the new “it girl” in the music and fashion scene.    After rocketing to fame with her viral amapiano-pop single “Water,” the song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Tyla the highest-charting African female solo musician in Billboard history.    She’s the first South African solo artist to break into the top 10 since 1968, according to Billboard.   Tyla’s irresistible dance anthem also topped the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs and Hip-Hop/R&B charts, and she claimed her first Grammy in February 2024 for Best African Music Performance.    "What the heck?!" she exclaimed on stage. "This is crazy, I never thought I'd say I won a Grammy at 22 years old."   Her Met Gala debut on May 6, 2024, was nothing short of memorable. Donning a Balmain gown made from three shades of real sand and a matching hourglass-shaped purse, Tyla fully embodied her “Sands of Time” inspiration.    Despite the dress code of “The Garden of Time,” Tyla redefined elegance, although the stunning creation made it difficult to sit or walk.    She was carried up the iconic Met stairs before Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative director, cut the gown into a mini dress right after she walked the carpet.   Tyla’s Met Gala entrance is only one highlight in a series of pivotal moments that have solidified her as a global sensation.   Partnering with brands like Beats by Dr. Dre and Alo Yoga, she gave her unique twist to their campaign with the original song “Safer.”   With a Grammy under her belt and a dazzling Met Gala debut behind her, Tyla is set to continue breaking barriers and leading the way in music and fashion.
