PTI to move SC to recover ‘missing’ footage of May 9 events

Former prime minister and incarcerated PTI founder, Imran Khan, has instructed his legal team to file petitions in the Supreme Court concerning the retrieval of footage from cameras installed on military premises on May 9, alleged deaths of 16 PTI workers, and the Form-47 statement of former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar. Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail on Thursday, PTI Secretary General Raoof Hasan conveyed Khan's directives to file three writ petitions in the Supreme Court. Hasan outlined that the first petition pertains to the retrieval of CCTV footage from military installations on May 9, the second addresses the incident resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals on the same day, and the third concerns the recent statement of Kakar on Form-47. Hasan further elaborated that Khan attributed the purported theft of CCTV footage to what he referred to as the "London plan." Imran Khan also raised concerns about the alleged theft of CCTV footage capturing his arrest at the Islamabad Judicial Complex. Additionally, Hasan said another petition will be filed to brought the former commissioner of Rawalpindi before the court. Also read: Army says 'no compromise' with May 9 planners, executors The PTI had purportedly organised nationwide protests targeting sensitive state and military installations following Imran Khan's arrest from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on May 9, 2023. The targeted installations included the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, the corps commander's residence in Lahore, and the Radio Pakistan premises in Peshawar, where protesters set fire to the main building. In a recent press conference, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif, demanded a sincere and public apology from the incarcerated former premier for the events of May 9 and urged him to abandon what was described as "politics of anarchy and hate" to rejuvenate his political prospects. Major General Sharif dismissed any possibility of negotiation with the PTI founder, categorising him as an "anarchist." While expressing readiness for the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9, Major General Sharif rejected the PTI's assertion that it was a 'false flag operation,' asserting, "May 9 is not a hidden thing, the irrefutable evidence of happenings is also with the public." However, Imran refused to tender an apology for the May 9 events following the army’s demand. "Why should the onus be on me to apologize? The apology should be directed towards me," the ousted prime minister said during a casual interaction with reporters at Adiala jail.
