Inspiration behind ‘Baby Reindeer’ set to sue Netflix

Fiona Harvey, a woman identified as the inspiration for the character "Martha" in the Netflix series "Baby Reindeer," has spoken out against how she has been portrayed on the show. "Baby Reindeer," created by and starring comedian Richard Gadd, features a character named Donny who is stalked by a woman named Martha.  Harvey claims the show's depiction is a work of fiction and has damaged her reputation. Harvey has not watched the show but acknowledges being the basis for the character.  She denies stalking Gadd or engaging in the behaviors depicted in the series, such as sending excessive emails and messages or threatening Gadd or his girlfriend. "I'm not a stalker," Harvey stated in a recent interview with Piers Morgan. "I've not been to jail, I've not got injunctions, interdicts. This is just complete nonsense." Harvey claims she met Gadd at a pub a few times and made a joke about him resembling a childhood toy, which inspired the show's title. She denies other events portrayed in the show, such as Gadd looking through her window. Harvey says she only sent Gadd a few emails and messages, and denies claims of sending 41,000 emails or hundreds of voicemails. The portrayal has resulted in online harassment for Harvey, including death threats. She is considering legal action against Gadd and Netflix. Gadd has previously addressed online speculation about the real people who inspired the show, urging viewers not to speculate.
