Pakistan and Bangladesh have officially resumed direct trade, with the first government-backed cargo ship departing from Port Qasim. According to Express News, this marks the first direct trade and formal commercial engagement between the two nations since the fall of Dhaka. The initiative represents a significant milestone in economic relations, restoring official trade ties after decades. As part of the agreement, Bangladesh will purchase a total of 50,000 tons of Irri rice from Pakistan’s Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP). The deal was finalized in the first week of February. The order will be fulfilled in two phases, with the second shipment of 25,000 tons scheduled for early March. Alongside this shipment, direct shipping routes between the two countries will also be re-established, further strengthening economic ties. For the first time, a Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) vessel carrying government cargo will dock at a Bangladeshi port, marking a new era in bilateral trade and maritime cooperation.
