Golden Temple attack: Five injured as Indian man assaults devotees with iron rod

 



Five people were injured when a man attacked them with an iron rod at the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, India, police confirmed on Friday. The incident occurred near the community kitchen where a number of devotees and locals were present, Indian media reported. Among the injured were two volunteers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). One of the injured individuals was rushed to the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Amritsar. The attacker, identified as Zulfan from Haryana, was overpowered by people inside the temple complex and arrested along with an accomplice. Authorities noted that the attackers had surveyed the area prior to the assault. "The second accused allegedly conducted a recce with the primary attacker," a police officer stated. The key accused, Zulfan, returned to the temple with an iron rod before attacking SGPC staff and devotees who attempted to intervene. Police confirmed that Zulfan was also injured during the incident. The motive behind the attack is under investigation, and authorities have urged the public not to panic. However, the incident has sparked outrage within the Sikh community, and the SGPC has filed a formal complaint.
