Varsities, bridges on wish-lists of MPAs

 



The Sindh Assembly on Monday began its pre-budget debate with Deputy Speaker Naveed Anthony in the chair. The debate will continue until Friday. During the five-day session, the assembly members will present their proposals regarding the provincial budget for the next financial year. On the first day, various members from the government and the opposition participated in the debate and came up with their proposals and suggestions on various projects. PPP's Farooq Awan said in his speech, the provincial government is committed to facilities the people by all means. He said that he is elected from Korangi district where the elected members did not serve the constituency. He said, Malir Expressway would change the fate of Korangi. He complained that the Korangi Causeway scheme comes in the budget every year but it is not built. MQM's Sabir Qaimkhani said, a provincial financial committee is also needed like NFC. He said that it is not yet known in which sector the government should develop. PPP members should keep in mind what their leadership has said. He also mentioned the problems of his constituency Latifabad Hyderabad in detail, which he said, should be considered in the next budget. PPP's female member Heer Soho said, there is no university in Sujawal. This project should be included in the next budget. MQM member Qurat-ul-Ain said that they should know where the budget of last year was spent and how many schemes were completed. She hopes that the suggestions they give will be taken into consideration. The government should work with the police to formulate some strategies to protect Karachi against fear and panic. PPP member Shazia Karim demanded that the people of Lyari be relieved from illegal electricity bills. MQM member Jamal Ahmed said, there is a serious water shortage in district central. People cannot afford tankers. Asif Musa of the PPP said, two to three secondary schools and a college for girls need to be built in his constituency. Hassan Ali Shah of the PPP demanded that road from Bharia City to Pikachang should be completed. Moeed Anwar of the MQM said that Gulshan-e-Iqbal is not getting water for the last twenty-two days. The tanker mafia is busy in fleecing people by charging exorbitant rates. There should be relief for Gulshan people in the next budget. Jam Shabbir Ali of the PPP proposed that roads should be constructed from Sanjhuru and Chak No. 8 to Kachhi Goth. Fire stations needed for Jam Nawaz Ali and Sanjhuru. Shariq Ahmed of the MQM said, situation in Khokrapar Hospital is getting worse, no one has visited it. He said that there has been no water in the G area of his constituency for 35 years. Pumping stations should be improved and solarized. Later, the Sindh Assembly session was adjourned until 1:30pm on Tuesday.
