Conor McGregor praises Donald Trump during St. Patrick’s Day White House visit

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor visited the White House on St. Patrick’s Day, where he met with U.S. President Donald Trump. The visit, which took place at the Oval Office in Washington, D.C., has fueled speculation about McGregor’s growing political ambitions, including a potential run for the Irish presidency. Despite stepping away from professional fighting due to injuries, McGregor continues to be a significant figure in both sports and public life. His last UFC fight was against Dustin Poirier, during which he suffered a leg injury. Although he was initially scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, a toe injury forced him to withdraw. However, his latest appearance at the White House has shifted attention from his MMA career to his potential political aspirations. During his meeting with Trump, McGregor praised the president, stating, “Your work ethic is inspiring.” Trump has previously spoken highly of McGregor, once calling him “one of the toughest competitors” in a past interview. In a recent meeting with Irish politicians, Trump also complimented McGregor’s fighting skills and tattoos, reinforcing their mutual admiration. McGregor’s association with Trump has further fueled speculation about his political future. Recently, McGregor posted on social media, criticizing a judicial ruling in Ireland and suggesting he could run for the presidency. In the same post, he hinted at his scheduled meeting with Trump, intensifying discussions about his ambitions beyond the Octagon. Trump has long maintained close ties with combat sports figures, including UFC President Dana White. In the past, he has also praised fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov, a remark that reportedly disappointed McGregor due to their well-known rivalry. While McGregor has not officially confirmed a political run, his increasing involvement in public discourse and alignment with influential figures suggest that a shift from MMA to politics may be on the horizon.
