Filmmaker Jeff Baena, husband of actress Aubrey Plaza, died by suicide in January 2025 after months of separation from his wife, according to a medical examiner’s report obtained by TMZ. The report states that Baena, 47, had been separated from Plaza since September 2024, when she moved to New York. His dog walker discovered his body at his Los Angeles home on January 3, 2025, after noticing loud music playing inside. According to police records, Plaza last spoke to Baena the night before his death. She also reported that he had made concerning remarks in October 2024, prompting her to request a welfare check on him. Baena had been attending therapy since the incident, and no previous suicide attempts were recorded. Authorities confirmed no illicit drugs or alcohol were found at the scene or in his system, and no suicide note was recovered. Baena was pronounced dead at 10:39 AM PT, and his final message to Plaza was sent at 7:36 AM PT that same morning. Plaza and Baena, who married in 2021, kept their relationship private, with Plaza previously describing their wedding as a low-key affair.
