Rain, thunderstorms expected in parts of country until May 4: PMD

 



Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country from today, with the wet spell expected to continue until May 4. Upper and central regions including Islamabad, Murree, Galiyat, upper Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Gilgit-Baltistan, and AJK are likely to receive rainfall during this period. Some areas may experience heavy showers and hailstorms, according to the Met Office. Rain is also forecast from May 2 to 5 in parts of south Punjab and Balochistan. Cities including Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Sanghar and Umerkot may witness scattered showers. Meanwhile, a severe heatwave has gripped parts of Sindh, where temperatures have surged. On Tuesday, Nawabshah recorded the highest temperature at 49°C, followed by 48°C in Rahim Yar Khan, Khairpur, Padidan, Rohri, and Dadu. Hyderabad and Bahawalpur saw highs of 45°C, while Multan recorded 44°C. Temperatures reached 41°C in Peshawar and Muzaffarabad, 40°C in Lahore, and 39°C in Karachi. Islamabad reported 38°C, Quetta 37°C, and Gilgit 34°C. Authorities have advised the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat hours, and remain updated on weather developments.
