Action initiated against cops for posting videos on TikTok in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: Police department on Thursday launched punitive action against 15 personnel, including three women officers, for posting videos in uniform on TikTok and other social media platforms.

“So far, 15 male and female police personnel have been ordered to report to police lines from their respective stations. They will be punished under relevant sections of the law upon completion of the inquiry,” Mohammad Sohail, spokesperson for police department, told journalists.

He said that action against them was initiated on the orders of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed. “All these personnel, as well as the entire police force in the district, had been warned of strict legal action if found uploading content while on duty on social media platforms,” he said.

Mr Sohail said that police department’s social media cell, established in the district to monitor TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms, was actively working to trace more personnel involved in such practices. He said that seven days had been given to them to submit their responses, as the inquiry against them had already been initiated.

A show-cause notice issued to them said that some police officials displayed irresponsible behaviour by engaging in inappropriate activities on social media, bringing a bad name to the department and undermining public interest.

Meanwhile, police department has imposed ban on use of smart phones during duty hours.

ROAD: Harneel Bassikhel road was inaugurated on Thursday with Rs70 million funds approved by district development advisory committee of Torghar.

“This road would provide better travelling services to locals,” Azizur Rehman, the chairman of Harneel village council, told the inaugural ceremony of the road held in Judbah, the district headquarters of Torghar.

He said that provincial government had also approved other mega development projects in the district to provide better communication services to locals.

“Work on Kotkay central bridge on the Indus River is also under way with Rs14 billion funds,” said Mr Rehman. He said that though government changed the tribal status of Torghar to a settled district in 2011, it remained deprived of development and prosperity.
