Karachi Development Authority employees stage protest

KARACHI: Employees and officers of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) have launched a “strong protest campaign” against the appointment of officers and staff from other government departments in the authority, alleging that the postings violate court orders and KDA’s service rules.

Announcing a series of protests, they held the first demonstration at the KDA Civic Centre, where employees raised slogans against the appointment of “outside officers.”

Banners carrying messages against the appointments were displayed across the building. The representatives of the Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA), various employees’ unions, and officers’ associations joined the protest.

According to the protesters, more than 15 officers and employees from different departments, including SCUG Services, trainee cadres and town councils from various districts of Sindh, have been posted to KDA despite there being no sanctioned positions for them in the authority’s Schedule of Establishment.

The protesting employees claimed that the KDA is an autonomous authority and that such appointments are in violation of Supreme Court directives regarding deputation and transfers.
