Pregnant woman killed, child hurt in Quetta

QUETTA: A pregnant woman was killed and her seven-year-old son wounded when gunfire erupted at a home in a private housing scheme on Airport Road in Quetta, police said on Wednesday.

Authorities took the woman’s husband, Farhan Magsi, into custody on suspicion of involvement in the shooting, Airport Police Station SHO Maqsood Gujar said. The woman was identified as Ms Daud and her son as Muhammad Habib.

The child and the woman’s body were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment and legal formalities. Police transferred the case to the Serious Crimes Investigation Unit for further probe.

Ms Daud was divorced from her first husband, with whom she had the 7-year-old boy, and later married Magsi, her sister said.

The sister appealed to Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and given the maximum punishment under the law.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Zia Ullah Langove took notice of the killing and sought an immediate report from police officials. He said anyone found responsible after the investigation will be brought to justice.
