Girders of the Soan Bridge, a key component of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project, were launched in Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Director General (DG) Kanza Murtaza while inaugurating the girders said that the Rawalpindi Ring Road project is progressing to meet its scheduled completion by June 2025. She expressed the civic body's determination to adhere to the timeline. During the inauguration ceremony, attended by key RDA officials and other stakeholders, Murtaza emphasised the importance of the Ring Road in reducing traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and improving regional connectivity. She described the installation of the Sawan Bridge girder, which spans the Sawan River, as a significant milestone in the development of the multi-lane highway. "This project will not only ease traffic congestion but also provide a safe and efficient alternative route for commuters," Murtaza stated. She added that the RDA has issued strict instructions to ensure the timely completion of the project while maintaining quality and safety standards. The Rawalpindi Ring Road, stretching 38.8 kilometres from GT Road Banth to the Thalian Motorway Interchange, is designed to connect major roads, highways, and industrial areas. Once completed, it will divert heavy traffic away from Rawalpindi and Islamabad, alleviating urban congestion and reducing travel times. The project, valued at Rs32.9 billion, was approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and is awaiting final approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). The RDA is collaborating with multiple agencies to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols during construction. Murtaza reaffirmed the RDA's commitment to delivering a high-quality infrastructure project that meets public needs. The completion of the Sawan Bridge girder marks a significant step forward, bringing the project closer to its goal of enhancing the region's transportation network and contributing to its economic development.
