Rs3bn telecom green sukuk launched

KARACHI: A green Sukuk bond worth Rs3 billion has been launched to fund solarisation and lithium battery projects in Pakistan, said a press release on Monday.

InfraZamin Pakistan Ltd, in partnership with Infralectric (a Brillanz Group company), DIB Pakistan Ltd, Bank Alfalah Ltd, and Meezan Bank Ltd, has announced the signing of Pakistan’s first Rs3bn AAA-rated green sukuk for the telecom sector. The issuance marks a milestone in sustainable infrastructure financing and climate-aligned capital market development.

The proceeds will finance the commercial deployment of lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar power solutions for telecom tower infrastructure across the country.

The transaction was oversubscribed by investors, and initial disbursement is planned after completion of regulatory and procedural requirements.

Under the transaction, InfraZamin Pakistan is providing a 100pc principal guarantee for the Rs3bn green sukuk issued by Infralectric Private Ltd, with DIB Pakistan Ltd acting as the lead arranger.

The transaction is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities in installation, maintenance, local manufacturing, remote monitoring, and technical field operations. By replacing diesel generators with cleaner distributed energy systems, the initiative aims to reduce emissions and improve the resilience of Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure.
