Emirates Airline, one of the world’s most successful airlines, owes part of its early success to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Karachi. The airline’s journey began on 25 October 1985, when its inaugural flight, operated by a PIA Airbus A300, flew from Dubai to Karachi. This historic flight marked the beginning of what would become a remarkable rise in the aviation industry. The Emirates flight, which used PIA’s aircraft and crew, laid the foundation for what would later become one of the world’s best airlines. Emirates, using the first letter ‘E’ from its name and ‘K’ for Karachi, adopted the call sign "EK", which remains in use to this day. This call sign serves as a reminder of the airline's origins and the critical role Karachi and PIA played in its early days. Today, Emirates is recognised as one of the leading airlines globally, but its roots in Karachi and its initial partnership with PIA continue to be a significant part of its history.
