Kim Kardashian surprised viewers when she removed her wig to reveal her natural, frizzed hair during the season six premiere of The Kardashians on Hulu. The 44-year-old SKIMS founder made the reveal at her sister Kourtney’s birthday breakfast at an IHOP in Los Angeles. Their mother, Kris Jenner, sister Khloé, and several of Kourtney’s friends were also present. For the occasion, Kim wore a Balenciaga baseball cap over a noticeable brunette wig resembling her usual hairstyle. The episode was filmed just weeks before she showcased her platinum blonde hair for the second time at the exclusive Met Gala on May 6, 2024. Two years earlier, Kim had expressed concerns about her hair possibly falling out after enduring a 14-hour bleaching session to achieve Marilyn Monroe’s iconic look for the 2022 event. As the group chatted, talk of the upcoming Met Gala came up while Kourtney encouraged Kim to try what she called the best hot chocolate at IHOP. I have the Met Ball coming up I don't think I can eat it, Kim responded, referencing the strict diet she followed when she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into Monroe’s Bob Mackie-designed dress. One of Kourtney’s friends asked Kim for details about what she's wearing to the 2024 Met Gala. Kim then explained that she was currently wearing a wig to conceal her blonde transformation before the event. This is a wig, Kim revealed, prompting Kourtney’s friend to laugh and respond, Like duh, thanks. I can tell, I mean your hair is... My hair is blonde, Kim replied. She then slowly took off her hat and wig, unveiling her bright blonde hair, which was styled in a bun with a middle part. I am in the process of dying my hair for the Met, she shared in a confessional moment. Kim added that viewers would see her switching between brown and blonde hair throughout the season, saying, So I will keep you guys guessing this season. A few days before the Met Gala, Kim revealed her blonde hair in an Instagram post shared by her hairstylist, Chris Appleton, showcasing her icy locks. One week later, she arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, posing on the red carpet with her newly dyed platinum blonde hair styled in a loose mermaid braid.
