Senate panel irked over bureaucrat's absence

The chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production took strong exception to the absence of the industries and production secretary, warning of action against him. A meeting of the committee chaired by Senator Aun Abbas Bappi, expressed displeasure over the absence of both the minister and the secretary. Senator Danesh Kumar noted that this was the second time the secretary had skipped the panel's meeting, stating, "If he does not attend, I will walk out of the meeting." The committee chairman criticized the secretary, emphasizing that neither the minister nor the secretary had attended. He announced plans to write to the Senate chairman, urging action against the secretary. Expressing frustration, he remarked that the grade-22 officer showed little to no regard for the committee. "We have the right to table a privilege motion against the secretary," he asserted. An official from the Ministry of Industries and Production informed the committee that the secretary was attending an important meeting, which was why he was unable to be present. In response, the committee chairman questioned the secretary's priorities, stating, "What could be more important than this meeting? Committee members traveled from Karachi and Balochistan to attend, yet the secretary, despite being in Islamabad, failed to appear."
