K-pop sensation NewJeans has officially rebranded as NJZ, announcing their first major performance since parting ways with their management company, Ador. The five-member group composed of Minji, Haerin, Danielle, Hanni and Hyein will co-headline ComplexCon Hong Kong from March 21 to 23, where they will debut a new song and perform solo stages. View this post on Instagram A post shared by COMPLEX (@complex) The group declared their departure from Ador on November 28, 2024, citing contract breaches. However, Ador—a subsidiary of K-pop giant Hybe—claims their contracts remain valid until 2029 and has filed multiple injunctions to block NJZ from signing independent deals. A court hearing is set for April, while a separate advertising contract dispute will be heard on March 7. Group member Danielle called the situation "frightening," accusing Ador of interfering in their work. Hanni emphasized their goal for 2025 is to release music quickly, adding, “We’ve done nothing wrong, so we’re not afraid.” The group maintains they will "never return" to Ador or Hybe. Ador expressed disappointment over the name change and reiterated its commitment to protecting the "NewJeans" brand. The label said it remains open to discussions with the members to resolve the dispute. Since debuting in 2022, NewJeans has become one of K-pop’s biggest acts, winning major awards and charting globally. Their split from Ador has already shaken the industry, with Hybe losing nearly 7% of its stock value—around $423 million—after the announcement.
