The Champions Trophy is the only ICC tournament in which every player of the winning team is specially awarded a white coat. These white coats are given to the team that wins the Champions Trophy as a symbol of honour, representing the players' hard work and determination. In a statement from the International Cricket Council (ICC), it was explained that every match in the ICC’s most prestigious tournament, the Champions Trophy, is significant, where teams not only compete for the trophy but also for this valuable white coat, which is a symbol of superiority and determination. According to the ICC, the white coat is an honorary badge that enhances the stature of the champions. The coat is a symbol of unparalleled determination that inspires generations. Wearing the white coat represents the journey where players risk everything to win the trophy. When did this tradition start, and which teams have worn the white coat? Although the Champions Trophy began in 1998, the tradition of awarding the white coat to the tournament winners started in 2009 during the sixth edition in South Africa. Under the leadership of Ricky Ponting, Australia became the first team to be awarded the honorary white coat after defeating New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final. In 2013, India earned the honour of wearing the white coat after defeating England in the Champions Trophy final in Birmingham. In 2017, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy by defeating India by 180 runs at The Oval, and Sarfaraz's team was awarded the special white coat.
