Hasan Nawaz sets unwanted record in New Zealand T20I series

Pakistan’s emerging opener Hasan Nawaz registered an unwanted record in the fifth T20I against New Zealand at Sky Stadium on Wednesday. Nawaz, who made his international debut in the opening match on March 16, has experienced a turbulent start to his T20I career. The 22-year-old was dismissed for a duck in his first two matches, becoming only the sixth batter overall and the second Pakistani to achieve the dismal feat. However, in a stunning turnaround, Nawaz smashed a 44-ball century in the third T20I, marking the fastest T20I hundred by a Pakistani batter and leading his team to a nine-wicket victory. But his form quickly dipped again, as he managed just one run in the fourth match before falling for a three-ball duck in the final game. His latest dismissal, courtesy of Jacob Duffy in the second over, saw him surpass Shahzaib Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, and Mohammad Rizwan for the most ducks by a Pakistani opener in a T20I series. Most Ducks by a Pakistani Opener in a T20I Series 3 – Hasan Nawaz (5 innings) 2 – Shahzaib Hasan (2 innings) 2 – Mohammad Hafeez (3 innings) 2 – Mohammad Rizwan (4 innings) With three ducks in five innings, Nawaz’s debut series has been a mix of highs and lows, leaving Pakistan with questions over consistency at the top of the order.
