Punjab announces nine-day Eidul Fitr holidays for schools

The Punjab government has announced Eidul Fitr holidays for all educational institutions, confirming that schools will remain closed from March 28. According to Punjab’s Minister for Education, both public and private schools will observe the holiday break. Secretary of Schools Khalid Wattoo stated that government schools will reopen on April 7, while annual results will be declared on April 4. The decision comes as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts Eidul Fitr to fall on March 31, a Monday. The break allows students and teachers to celebrate the festival before the new academic year begins. Earlier, the federal government officially announced the public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, granting a three-day break. According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday, the holidays will commence from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2. Moreover, in an effort to curb fare overcharging during Eidul Fitr, the Sindh government has cancelled the holidays of all officers and staff of the transport department, ensuring they remain on duty throughout the festive period. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the decision on Saturday, stating that transport officials will monitor fares as part of a province-wide crackdown against transporters charging excessive rates. "Complaints of overcharging are common during Eid, and we are committed to ensuring that citizens are not forced to pay more than the officially approved fares," Mr Memon said. Officers from the Sindh Transport Authority, as well as regional and district transport bodies, will be deployed to address complaints swiftly. The minister warned that strict action would be taken against violators of fare regulations. He urged the public to report any incidents of excessive fare collection so authorities could respond immediately.
