Soulja Boy denies former assistant's rape allegations, calls claims 'disgusting' in civil trial

Rapper Soulja Boy took the stand in a Los Angeles courtroom this week, strongly denying allegations of rape and abuse made by a former personal assistant during an ongoing civil trial. Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, admitted to a sexual encounter with the plaintiff, identified only as Jane Doe, during a police raid at his home in February 2019. However, he testified the interaction was consensual, stating, "I asked her if she wanted to have sex, and she was engaged in it. She didn't push me away or say stop, nothing like that," as reported by Rolling Stone. When asked directly if he ever physically assaulted or forced the plaintiff into sexual acts, Soulja Boy strongly denied the allegations, calling them "disgusting" and "crazy." His lawyer, Rickey Ivie, argued that the relationship between Soulja Boy and the plaintiff was consensual and claimed her accusations lacked credible evidence. Jane Doe alleges Soulja Boy repeatedly sexually and physically abused her during her employment as his assistant from late 2018 to 2020. She specifically accused the rapper of raping her during the 2019 police raid and again in October 2020 when she returned to collect personal belongings. Doe further claimed Soulja Boy locked her in a room without food or water for three days after she tried to quit in 2019. Additionally, she accused him of withholding her driver's license, threatening her with guns, isolating her at his Malibu rental, and physically assaulting her multiple times. She alleged he punched, kicked, and spat on her, and once paid her $1,000 following an assault in February 2019. Doe also testified that Soulja Boy threatened her life, once stating, "I should have killed you," and warned he'd send shooters after her family if she left him. Despite the abuse allegations, Doe said she remained employed due to Soulja Boy's repeated apologies and promises to improve his behavior. Ventura County prosecutors declined to file criminal charges in 2021, citing insufficient evidence to meet the burden of proof required for criminal prosecution. Doe's lawsuit seeks damages for sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, emotional distress, unpaid wages, and a hostile working environment. The civil trial continues in Los Angeles Superior Court.
