RAWALPINDI: The district administration and butchers on Saturday agreed to work jointly to stabilise the prices of mutton and beef during Ramazan.
On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Hasaan Tariq. Officials of the district administration and representatives of the All Pakistan Jamiat Qureshi Meat Welfare Association participated in the meeting.
The meeting was led by Khursheed Ahmed Qureshi, Central President of the Jamiat Qureshi Meat Welfare Association. Among others present were President Jamiat Qureshi Meat Welfare Association Rawalpindi Haji Rahat Javed Qureshi, Mutton Association General Secretary Chaudhry Shaukat Ali, Patron-in-Chief Jamiat Qureshi Meat Welfare Association Rawalpindi Haji Naeem Qureshi, General Secretary Nasir Qureshi, Kamran Qureshi, Secretary Information Mutton Association Amjad Qureshi and other representatives.
During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the prices and supply of meat. Office-bearers of the butchers’ association informed the district administration that the main reason for the recent increase in prices was the growing export of meat to various countries.
They added that ongoing trade activities with Iran had also increased pressure on the local market, resulting in higher prices and difficulties for the local butcher community.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Hasaan Tariq directed that officially issued rate lists be displayed at prominent places and that meat be sold at the rates agreed upon with the district administration.
