HARIPUR: Two persons died from burns and another suffered wounds on Saturday morning when a jeep caught fire after crashing into a moving truck from behind near a police checkpost, about 22 kilometres from the district headquarters, police said.
Police and rescue sources told Dawn that the crash was so severe that rescue workers spent over an hour cutting through the vehicle’s body to retrieve the charred bodies and the injured.

Hayat told reporters that the three men travelling in the jeep died instantly, while another man suffered severe burns.
After more than an hour of effort, police and rescue workers extricated the charred bodies and the critically injured man, said an official from the Medical Disaster Team at Haripur station.
The injured person was taken to the nearest Taxila Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where the doctors referred him to Wah Cantonment Hospital for burns treatment.
Police reported the injured man’s condition as critical.
The bodies were removed to the Rural Health Centre, Kotnajibullah, for further legal proceedings.
Police identified one of the deceased as Mohsin Khan Jadoon, 31, a resident of Dhamtor village, Abbottabad. The identity of the second deceased and the injured was not immediately available.
