SAHIWAL: Chak Badian police On Wednesday booked 13 people, including 10 unidentified suspects, for allegedly attacking a Punjab Food Authority (PFA) team and taking the officials hostage during a raid at an unregistered milk collection centre at 67/D village in Pakpattan tehsil on Tuesday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Chadhar said two main suspects have been arrested.
The police say a PFA team comprising three officials, Arsalan, Arooj Fatima and Junaid, conducted a raid on an unregistered milk collection centre and allegedly found 1,000 litres ofadulterated milk, unfit for human consumption.
As the officials started collecting samples from the chiller, the centre’s owner, Fakhar, offered resistance and stopped them from performing their duty.
The owner, who was also joined by 12 other persons, allegedly resisted the inspection, harassed the female staffer, and physically assaulted the male members of the PFA team, before locking them in an upper-storey room of the building for around 30 minutes.
The police, quoting the PFA staffers, said the suspects also brandished firearms, including a 30-bore pistol, and snatched mobile phones from the officials to prevent them from seeking police help.
Finally, they were rescued by PFA Pakpattan Deputy Director Umair Sattar, who reached there along with his team.
On being called, a police contingent also rushed to scene and arrested two of the suspects and recovered weapons from them, while the others managed to flee.
The PFA team wasted the adulterated milk before sealing the premises.
Later, Chak Badian police registered a case against Fakhar, Sajad, Gulam Nabi and 10 unknown suspects under sections 186, 342, 354, 506, 379, 148, 149 of the PPC and Section 31, 32 and 22-A of The Punjab Food Authority Act 2011 on the compliant of Pakpattan Food Safety Officer Naeem Ahmed.
The police say they are conducting raids to arrest the fleeing suspects.
BOOKED: Pakpattan city police registered a case against five nominated and six unknown suspects for physically assaulting a workshop owner on Sahiwal Road on Wednesday afternoon.
As per the police, a customer, Yasir Maqsood, visited the wheel-balancing workshop of Arsalan, where they had a dispute over the bill.
Following an exchange of words, Maqsood left the shop, but allegedly returned three hours later, along with 10 accomplices.
The suspects attacked Arsalan and his brother, Fazain, with sticks and iron rods.
Meanwhile, other shop owners intervened and alerted the police on 15 helpline.
However, before the police arrived, the suspects managed to flee the scene.
A case has been registered against them under sections 506, 148, and 149 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s elder brother, Mubarik Ali.
