Rihanna voices Smurfette in ‘Smurfs’ movie, covers ‘Heaven Is a Place on Earth’ in new trailer

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Smurfs (2025), featuring Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette.  The trailer showcases the pop star’s rendition of Belinda Carlisle’s 1987 hit “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” and teases “new music from Rihanna” for the film’s soundtrack. In addition to voicing Smurfette, Rihanna serves as a producer and songwriter for the movie. The Grammy-winning artist introduced the trailer herself, joking that she originally aimed for the role of Papa Smurf. The film is directed by Chris Miller and Matt Landon and is set for release on July 18, 2025. The star-studded cast includes John Goodman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, Octavia Spencer, Sandra Oh, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, and Kurt Russell. While part of the beloved Smurfs franchise, this film is separate from The Smurfs (2011) and Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), which starred Katy Perry and Demi Lovato as Smurfette, respectively. Rihanna, who has largely remained out of the spotlight since 2023, previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show and earned an Oscar nomination for her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song, “Lift Me Up.” As anticipation builds for her long-awaited album, fans can look forward to new music from her Smurfs soundtrack this summer.
