Marko Elez, a key figure in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has stepped down after racist and eugenics-promoting social media posts linked to him were uncovered. The resignation comes just hours after Elez was granted restricted access to a $5 trillion Treasury payment system, sparking further controversy over Musk’s government restructuring efforts. According to The Wall Street Journal, the since-deleted X account associated with Elez supported repealing the Civil Rights Act and advocated for a eugenic immigration policy. Other posts allegedly included statements such as “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity” and “Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool.” The account also made inflammatory remarks about the Israel-Palestine conflict. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed Elez’s resignation, while Virginia Congressman Don Beyer called the situation “a scandal,” criticizing Musk for hiring “a self-described racist” and granting him access to sensitive government data. Elez, a Rutgers University computer science graduate, previously worked at Musk’s SpaceX, Starlink, and X, focusing on AI development. His resignation has intensified scrutiny of DOGE, an agency Musk has championed for eliminating wasteful government spending.
