Lahore admin rejects PTI's request for Feb 8 rally at Minar-e-Pakistan

The Lahore administration has denied the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) permission to hold a rally on February 8, citing security concerns. The decision was made after considering the recommendations of the District Intelligence Committee. The official notification issued on Thursday stated that due to security reasons, PTI could not be granted permission for the gathering. The notification also noted that several major events would be taking place in Lahore on February 8, including a cricket match, a cattle show, and a speaker conference. Additionally, the administration referred to PTI's past actions as a significant factor in the decision, particularly the events of May 9, which led to concerns over the safety of public gatherings. Earlier today, Lahore High Court had directed the Lahore deputy commissioner to make a decision on PTI's request for permission to hold the rally at Minar-e-Pakistan by 5 pm. PTI had approached the court on February 3 to seek approval for the rally, stating that it was important to protest against the alleged violation of their mandate. On January 29, PTI's Punjab Chief Organizer, Aaliya Hamza, had announced that the party would hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on February 8 to protest against what they termed an assault on PTI's mandate. The party submitted an application to the deputy commissioner's office, requesting official approval for the event at Iqbal Park. Addressing the media outside the DC office, PTI leader Aliya Hamza reiterated the party's demand, stating: "We sought permission to observe 'Youm-e-Siyah [Black Day]' on February 8the day when the public mandate was stolen [one year ago]." Hamza emphasized that PTI would not accept any restrictions this time, asserting that the rally would proceed regardless of the administration's stance.
